Most Disturbing Books, Part 7 (Booktubers' Picks!)
Regarding the porn section, I remember reading a tweet once that said “you’re either a straight, white cis male or you’re a porn category” and I think that sums it up pretty well. Now, in my case, I’m a cis white woman so I wouldn’t have to face the wrath of tags such as “exotic” or “BBW” or, god forbid, a transphobic slur, but I would probably still have to deal with other appearance-based tags, like “teen (18+)”, “petite” and *ugh…* “small tits” Point is, every one of a woman’s features “have to be” listed on porn sites, to make sure that the woman is, usually, to a man’s specific wants and desires. (PS: this is coming from someone who actually watches porn, so I’m not judging the whole industry, I’m just putting in my two cents)
I acknowledge that I am too fragile minded to read many of the transgressive works that you review but I find your well thought out analysis of these books fascinating 👍
burn the memory of this man. i seeeeeethe
Thank you! Your videos always bring a spark of exploration and curiosity to an otherwise dull and conformist world.
Totally understandable why such books are circulated of hypes and such. Lower attention spans and the weird need and desire of recent booktok communities to read less and less and faster and faster.
Wow we kinda served here...
Love the reviews n butterfly garden good read and love the protagonist
Thank you beginning gets to me seeing everywhere growing up
I was forced to watch The Passion of the Christ when it came out, at Religion class. We were all around 10 years old too. I remember feeling sweaty and uncomfortable while fidgeting, my head palpitating. This was in a Latin American country also. What the hell.
excellent!! from N.C., loving O'Connor, William Gay and the GREAT William Faulkner. Flannery and Carson McCullers!!! You have done an honorable job here.
The Bible certainly did
Amen, amigo.
I read Lolita when I was thirteen (probably unwise but my mom hadn’t the time to watch over me), then I read the end of Alice bc of your videos. Maybe it’s time to definitely disgust myself and read Tampa. Also, I’m on a reading streak about the psychology of evil and it sounds fitting
💩
Really liked the list. You gave me a few that weren't on my radar. I recommend to you "Snowtown" aka "The Snowtown Murders" (2011). It's based off true events in Australia about the victims of sexual assault teaming up with a man who organized the hunting and killing of the offenders. It's about the effects that trauma on the community and individual and it shows how that damage spreads in disturbing ways. It's really heartbreaking and brutal. Not for the faint of heart.
Why would you want to peel an apple?

👀 Ronald McDonald (Also this reminded me I’ve been meaning to read “Regarding the Pain of Others”! Soon)
The End of Alice...well... 🤔...that messed me up worse than Tampa, Lolita, Full Brutal, Exquisite Corpse, Dennis Cooper's texts, etc.🎉 I need some water.
I was excited to read Clickers after hearing so much about the lauded author. It's not good. Endless missed opportunities with a handful of decent set ups and payoffs. The second half was a chore. Maybe the 35 sequels are better.
Have you read Patrick Senécal's book Seven Days? It's a good book. The writer couldn't have made his message any clearer if he had one of the characters directly address the reader and say what they were trying to say. That's not necessarily a bad thing, though. The novela Mygale by Thierry Jonquet is good as well. If you're still interested in transgressive art, you can look into Viennese Actionism. Their art really did push the boundaries. Otto Muehl took it a little too far. I think he was just a cult leader who wanted to get his kicks. He filmed the swan scene from 120 days of Sodom. That wasn't pleasant to look at.
I missed this, because of the different time zone. But I'm enjoying the recording. Please do this again!
Will do! Thank you so much!
Funny how people like to mention the Great Daycare Scare in connection to the arrest of Sotos, but they don't like to talk about John Wayne Gacy and Dean Corll.
Funny how people like to talk about John Wayne Gacy and Dean Coril, but they don’t like to talk about Great Daycare Scare! Did you learn nothing about how media fries your brain? Lmfao.
@@PlaguedbyVisions The rudest and least intelligent response I've ever gotten from a RUclipsr. You and Sotos deserve each other.

Constantly inspired by your commitment.
THIS! This is exactly what I want from video essays about disturbing media, so many people just explain what something is, without going into what it means. The use of scholarly works and Eddie Murphy movies to illustrate the philosophy? *Chef’s kiss*
William Bennet said in a interview long ago that Whitehouse stopped touring on the US because of the constant physical attacks that Peter used to receive.
That makes me smile. :-)
In response to 3:24 …read Hogg by Samuel R. Delany
I have! I’ve talked about it multiple times on my channel.
Please more Espanñol! I started learning Spanish and I devour everything interesting.
i really love your videos! i had a question that i think i had after watching your video on unreadable books. you mentioned how you couldn't read Hogg because the voice of the character was just so distant and horrible. how do you know what the voice of the prose is like? i've read some of tampa, and you said the tone was "monstrous", but i couldn't quite grasp that. what should i look for to truly get the sense of the prose of the story?
Just stopping by to say thanks for the great work @PlaguedbyVisions - I've been digging your vids for a while now, really appreciate your insights. Keep up the great work!
Great list thanks. Master and Margherita a classic. My recommend for a bit weird.. Three to see the king by Magnus mills. And in watermelon sugar by Richard Brautigan which is very out there and unique.
Ah yes, this is most _definitely_ the side of Booktube that I _definitely_ want to be/associate in. Truly a Beherit in the rough.
i like the way you handle such heavy topics, do you have a book club?
i really love your content, but i came to realize that the way how racialized every single analysis done by americans has become, is off putting and to me rarely a genuine contribution towards the topics you discuss. Im done hearing about the exploits of the white man.
Ok
👀
a book about nick carter i finally read it and watched your video about it. i agree with everything. I even laughed at the same points. It's fantastic.
Edit: I'm truly sorry for the abuse you went through. It wasn't your fault. I will never go to bat for Sotos' usage of a CSAM xerox for the cover of PURE #2, but I had always understood his work to have ostensibly been making a point about society's hypocrisy around child abuse, like the exploitation of Jon Benet Ramsey's murder in the media that he displays in "Prime Time." He obviously stepped over the line with his usage of the aforementioned image on the cover, but from what I've heard of someone who knew him at the zine shop I've been to, he himself isn't actually a p3do, weirdly. Still, to paraphrase "Tropic Thunder," YOU NEVER GO FULL PETER SOTOS!
I just started watching your most disturbing books playlist from years ago and I have fallen in love with you and your work! I hope you never stop!
For as long as there are nasty books to read, the Visions live on!

I really love tokyo gore police, its gross, campy, stylish, the practical effects are insane, has an anti-cop undertone. Perfect movie
I love Stephen Kings quote on the cover xD

Just for you, baby.
Thank you so much for this channel. I'm very excited to learn about these (some familiar) authors. As a guy living in a part of the world where this kind of literature won't be translated any time soon, these names sound like "the word of the new language". I've done a couple of unofficial translations from Apocalypse culture and others, so yeah, for me this part of culture, marginal to some extent, is a big part of my "inner" culture.
🎉
What a waste of time to watch. Omg!
Thanks for the revenue, sucka!!!
